Colonial Spice Bars

I like these especially in the fall. They have that autumn spice flavor to them.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/4 cups flour
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • Advertisement

  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp. ginger
  • 1/8 tsp. cloves
  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 2/3 cup sour milk or buttermilk

Frosting:

  • 1 Tbsp. butter
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. lemon juice, fresh

Directions:

Mix all ingredients and bake in 9x13 inch pan at 350 degrees F for 20 minutes. For frosting, mix all ingredients together very well and frost cooled bars.

Prep Time: 15 Minutes
Cooking Time: 20 Minutes
