French Apple Squares

This one is extra yummy!


  • 3 1/4 cup flour
  • 1 1/2 cup shortening
  • 3 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 egg yolks, beaten
  • 1 cup milk
  • Ad

  • 3 cans apple pie filling
  • 1 tsp. lemon flavoring
  • 2 Tbsp. butter
  • 2 egg whites, beaten


Mix together the flour, shortening, sugar and salt. Blend in egg yolks with the milk. Roll out half of the dough and fit it into a 12x18 inch jellyroll pan. Mix the pie filling and lemon flavoring. Spread into pan. Dot with butter. Roll out remaining dough and place over the top of the filling. Seal the edges. Brush the top with the beaten egg whites. Bake at 375 degrees F for 35 minutes. Glaze with a thin layer of powdered sugar frosting, if desired.
