Why do my smoke detectors go off when I turn on heat?

A friend of mine used to be a fire fighter and mentioned beeping sounds at work the other day, but sorry I do not know what the connection could be. Please don't ignore this, it could be serious. i would recommend to call your local fire department.
Might be a dirty filter on the heater. These should b replaced at least every year.
