Gluing a Calendar to Furniture?

What glue would be best for gluing an old calendar picture on an expensive piece of furniture. This would be a permanent arrangement.

White Glue, Simply add a bit of water to a white glue like Elmer's and brush it under & over the paper, it will dry clear. You will need several coats over the top for durability (about 3 or 4).
White Glue is what decoupage medium is made from. If you want to spend more money, you can always buy Mod-Podge decoupage medium at a craft store. It's available in matte or glossy finishes. Or you can use artists medium instead. Artists medium is simply the paint medium without any coloring pigment added and this also comes in differing finishes (gloss to matte) & thickness' from regular to gel.

I think it might be better to place a heavy piece of glass on top of the furniture and put the picture between the glass and furniture.

CAUTION!

Take another page (that you don't care about) from the calendar and test it on a piece of wood. Many times the printing on the reverse, especially the dark lines between the dates, will bleed through, ruining the image.

Watered-down white glue or wheat paste works well and, if you don't coat it, is reversable. If you do, a light coat of clear shellac will do nicely.
But I agree with the glass suggestion. If it is a nice and/or expensive piece of furniture it is far better to not make any permanent changes that you (or your heirs) might regret later.
