Using Coupons Wisely

I have been a staunch couponer for years. One year, I kept the money I that I saved and was able to buy a new washer and dryer at the end of the year. Two to five dollars a week at the grocery store adds up.

Once when my local market doubled, I saved $98 on a $300 food order. With three teens in the house at the time, the free food fed the empty legs the boys seem to have.

If you get a large coupon for product that you don't usually use, keep it for food baskets that churches and schools usually gather near Thanksgiving or Christmas.

Great idea! I love coupons. I got 24.98 dollars worth of stuff the other day for 11.51! I love it, lol.

The other day, I saved 22 dollars at one store and 14 in another. I haven't thought of saving this money and putting it into a separate account. Will start now that you have given me this idea! Thank you so much for sharing.

I understand that a lot of people use coupons. But, I do not understand how they save money. When I go to a store, the store brands are as cheap as a name brands with a coupon. Also, I do a lot of shopping at Aldi's which does not take coupons.

I also use store brands that are cheaper than brand names even with a coupon. I live in a very small town - several miles to the bog box grocery stores so we never get double coupons. I can't save money using coupons.

I agree save the money for something you need. Also I get free items with coupons of things I do not use to donate.

I save pet food coupons and when I get a handful I send them to a local animal shelter.

I am an avid couponer too. There have been times over the last 5 years or so had it not been for couponing we would have had some bare cabinets and an empty fridge. Here is a great story I thought everyone would enjoy and it also gives tons of great tips on couponing, rebates and more.

I can't seem to start the coupon thing, I really do want to use coupons and save money. We really can not afford to not use them. But like I said I don't know how to even start.

Does anyone have any advise for a coupon newbie?

Go to some of these sites:

I have been saving 80% plus on food and getting personal items for free. Today at Rite Aid, I "bought" over $100 worth of things I use and will get $100 back from Rite Aid rebates, $20 from another rebate and $10 from another one. In addition, I had have $40 in coupons...so all in all, I made $70 going shopping today! I could not have done this without the lists and info from the above sites.

My husband and I look forward to using coupons when shopping. I spend a little time each week to sort through all the coupons from the sale papers and the ones you can find throughout some stores. We do not buy something just because we have a coupon, only the items we normally would buy anyway.

The coupons we don't/won't use are passed on to family members who will. But wait! When we get home from shopping we check our receipts to see the total savings and then put that amount in our savings jar! Just another way to SEE the savings and actually get to use it on something special later!
