I don't understand the "Pour water around loaves." What water? Is this to turn the pan into something like you would use for custard, where you set the ramekins into a large pan and pour water in til it's half way up the ramekin?

Robin, this is the recipe I have used for over 20 years. Got it from the Coffee Cup Cookbook (formerly in Olds, IA) My husband says it is the best meatloaf in the world. Sometimes I mix in a little shredded cheddar cheese. It is moist, yet doesn't fall apart. Seems it may be an old Mennonite recipe?

Little_Nana3 I usually shape into two loaves and put them side-by-side in a 9x13 pan, not touching each other or the sides of the pan, and then pour a little water in the bottom of the pan. This keeps it from getting too brown around the edges and bottom of your pan. Easy to clean up!
