I live in zone 4, upstate NY. This area has had tomato blight three years ago. For no reason we gardeners could figure out, our tomato plants that had enough sun and water --- and grew / looked healthy until early August, suddenly had black bottoms. The price of tomatoes at the Farmer's Market and roadside stands skyrocketed. Cooperative Extension was our only resource. They very strongly recommended each tomato plant be destroyed permanently and NOT put in the compost bin. We had no solution, organic or otherwise. The next year, I planted in huge pots instead of the garden. It was similar weather (rain and sun) and there was no problem. I still don't understand it, but this long post I hope is helpful.
