Removing Dye Transferred in Wash?

I put purple cotton pants in with the rest of my colors, including a gray sweatshirt which is cotton, it has some purple dye on it. How do I get it out?

Was the item dryer dried or air dried? If dryer dried the color may be set. One thing to try is Shout Color Catcher Sheets, sold in the detergent aisle at the supermarket. Wash the shirt by itself with 1-2 sheets. The directions say 1, but I find 2 works better.

Another thing to try is soaking the item in a solution of powdered dishwasher detergent, 1 cup detergent to enough warm water to cover the shirt. Keep it submerged overnight, weighting it down with a plate if needed. If you do not have a dishwasher, the el cheapo brand from the dollar store works well. Just rinse thoroughly and air dry. Hope this helps.
