What Kind of Snake Is This?  - tan and brown snake in drivewayAny help with identifying this snake? We live in middle Tennessee. Is it venomous?

From tennesseesnakes.org:There are four species of pit vipers in Tennessee: Copperhead, Western Cottonmouth, Timber Rattlesnake and the Western Pigmy Rattlesnake. All of our venomous snakes have a vertical, elliptical shaped eye pupil. They are generally heavy bodied animals and because of this are not very good climbers.

From the picture you submitted, I would say your snake is not venomous.

I believe Judy is correct about the snake but you can check out the snakes that commonly live in your area and also ask a professional to look at your photo to be sure.
