All the tasty, fresh, summer fruits and vegetables are available NOW at your local farmers' markets. I think it's a great idea for us to shop at these markets and support our local farmers. The prices are usually very reasonable, and the produce is fresh. Buy a little extra produce when you see a real bargain to can, freeze, or share with a friend or neighbor.

That was a good tip from Lisa. All produce should be washed regardless of where it was bought. We have a Farmer's Mkt in our town but I have seldom bought there because the prices are sky high. I'm hoping we will go back to growing our own garden this year. Our yard has gotten too shady so it wasn't doing good anymore. We are taking out some dead trees so think we will have a new sunnier spot for a vegetable patch :-)

I wanted to reply to Ness' tip on the farmer's market. PLEASE BE CAREFUL!! Here, in Colorado, we had a problem with produce from a farmer's market this past summer. Some of the produce was found to have ecoli bacteria and some people were ill as a result. Just remind your readers to thoroughly clean everything!! Thanks, Lisa
