I was wondering if anyone knew why some laundry detergents are better at removing dirt in cold water than hot?

Thanks,

I always use Tide and have never done a load of laundry on anything but cold. I think buying the cold-water version of Tide it totally unnecessary. If I have bad stains I spot treat with Dawn. I use oxy-clean for my whites. I dissolve it in hot water, fill the rest of the washer with cold and soak the whites overnight. They come out really white.

Tide and Purex both have cold water formulas--but I haven't tried either yet.

I usually use cold water for my colored items. The best thing that I have learned is to always pretreat any stains.

Tide has a new detergent made specifically for cold water, named "Tide Cold Water". I purchased it on sale and have tried it- but haven't really noticed a difference from regular tide.
