I am thinking about buying a camel colored Microfiber couch and love-seat. What about stains? We have 4 children. I heard it stains easily? We don't eat on our furniture. What about oils from our body/feet?

I hate my microfiber couch, and my microfiber glider & ottoman! If you have the slightest little crumb/dirt/leaves from outside/pet hair, etc. on your feet, it will end up on your couch and won't brush off easily! Very annoying!

I have a 3 pc, microfiber sectional and I also work for a company that handles warranty issues of furniture, the best way to protect your microfiber is to Not get anytype of protection put on it at the time of the purchase (even if the sales person insist will cover it and repel) NOT true, to maintain the furniture vaccum it about once a month or twice if needed, and then as part of normal maintence get professionally cleaned, per this is going to ensure the right chemicals are used and prevents the material from shrinking or wrinkling....by the way if you take the covers off and put them in the wash this may void any warranties that you have on the furniture, and also could cause the cush covers to shrink or become miss shaped. plus the water may make the material lose it's softness. You are better off opting to not have anything put on there to "protect it" vaccum once a week with a brush attachment, and when you do get a spill wipe up right away because typically does not soak in right away naturally becasue of the material, also if you can still see some type of a spill that has dried up, generally flakes off and when you vaccum with brush attachment will generally remove.

I don't care what anyone says... Microfiber is the worst material to have when you have kids. We bought it thinking it would be great with children. A ton of Milk Stains, Dog Hair and Cat Hair later, our couches look like they are older than they are. I recommend leather.

We have a 3 piece living room suite. However there are no tags indicating what to use to clean the fabric, i.e. w, s, ws...Any suggestions?

Are people taking the covers off the cushions and putting them in the washing machine? Do they shrink or do they lay flat to dry? If was leaves water stains, how can you wash them? When they're saying everyday soap and water, is that Dawn, handsoap, Tide or what? Is upholstery cleaner or rug shampoo something that could be used to wipe clean? HELP.

Hi! We are in the process of purchasing a microfiber couch and I thought I would pass along what the salesman told us.
He said that no material is stain proof but that microfiber is naturally stain resistant. He said that any kind of stain resistant coating that people might try to sell you would actually make the couch worse 'cause it would never dry and that if they sell you some kind of coating on it they probably don't even do anything to it, just take your $80... He said they use baby wipes to clean their showroom couches and have never had any problems with that. We'll have to try that out and see if it works.

Good luck with your purchases!

I am also purchasing camel colored microfiber furniture. I've been advised with 2 kids to purchase "ultrashield" fabric warranty. It's supposed to somewhat shield the fabric like a scotchguard. Any thoughts? Is it worth it? TIA

All of the things I have read about cleaning microfiber say DO NOT USE WATER, use ammonia or alcohol, test spot first of course. Cleaning will make fabric hard, take a small brush or old toothbrush after you clean the fabric and rub the brush on it. I too have the problem with my husband's body oil getting on the fabric, but alcohol seems to do the trick. I haven't tried the ammonia, but it's supposed to work also.

I've got a micro fibre couch and I have noticed that if my son spills milk on the couch if I leave it and let it dry out completely it just flakes off I think to many of you are making the mistake of try to clean things too quickly if you let the marks dry out they will just crumble off! Does anyone else have a problem with static?

3wks after I got my microfiber sectional my 3yr old used a sharpie pen on it and I used plain water and a wet rag and very little soap rinsed it and then dried it and it came right out you still can't see it a year later. I have 5 kids and 4 of them are boys I love my couch and everything seems to come off of it they haven't ruined it yet. ;)

Cleaned the microfiber couch with resolve like someone said on here. It came clean but it is NOT soft at all anymore. Like sandpaper almost.
How do I make it soft again?
Also, mine isn't the kind that can come off and go in the washing machine so it's a pain to keep clean with 3 kids and a dog, and water spots show up seemingly out of nowhere every day! But most important how do I make it stay SOFT and clean?

I was thinking about buying microfiber couches. The salesman told me any cleaner, like Resolve that is WATER based should be used to clean stains, etc. Do not use oil based cleaners or water and soap, as it will leave water marks! Still not sure if I will buy, but thought I'd pass on what I've heard.

We've had our set for a year now. I cleaned it myself about 3 months ago and with a 2 yr old. It's about time to do it again. It looked brand new when I did it my self a few months ago. I took each cushion off and used a shampooer on them. Its an electrolux shampooer. Then I used one of the scrubbers with bristles to do the attached cushions. If you don't have a shampooer just fill a bucket with warm water and a little shampooer soap use a bristle brush and gently scrub all of the cushions. Make sure to do the whole cushion so no water lines show. It took a whole night to dry but it looked just like new in the morning! My fiance was shocked!

we bought a microfiber couch too and stains show up right away. It smelled funny when we got it. Now my husbands body odor/sweat has made it sour and it won't come out! Visible water stains and tried vinegar...still smells and more water stains. Nothing I've read seems to help. Like the feel of it but wouldn't buy again. Expensive junk we bought.

I am thinking about buying a microfiber couch & oversized chair. I have 1 dog, 1 cat. Salesperson says there will be no spotting in cleaning the material & for about $75 I can have both pieces treated with a stain guard that is guaranteed for 5 years. I would like to know if these people with cleaning issues had their furniture treated with the stain guard. What price range or brand of furniture did you buy? I am looking at buying from Laz E Boy.

I find that baby wipes do the best at taking out most stains (and don't leave water marks.)
Anyone ever had theirs professionally cleaned?

I just picked up my microfiber couch today. I didn't really do much research on the material before my purchase. I'm not so worried about the stains. But my two cats have their claws!!Has anyone had any issues with holes in the material from their pets?

Just bought complete set of microfiber furniture. Had it treated before delivery-question oil mark from someones shoes on the cushion (at least I think it is an oil stain), how and what product do I use to remove it. Also dog saliva (have a drooler dog) what do I do-not sure if the protection is working. Help!!! First time to buy furniture in 25 years and this is a fabric that I have never had.

I have had my sofa and love seat for 2 yrs. and I have them! My husband has left such body oil stains. I have gently tried cleaning minor stains which left huge water stains, I am terrified to try cleaning his big dirt deposits. HELP! My dog also lays on the sofa with him and he leaves spots when he licks his paws.

I hate my microfiber couch. Oily stains do NOT come out and stains that do, leave water marks. I also dislike the fact that I cannot vacuum it. Waiting for my daughter to move out so I can give it to her and go get something else.

Do not buy micorfiber furniture if you have a baby that is teething. Water stains make the sofa appear nasty and it's horrible to try and keep clean.

To the person who said their microfiber smelled like a wet animal:
I didn't have this problem and wash it in the washer and dry it and have not problem. However, to your point, my male cat absolutely hated the material and started "marking" it regularly until I just had to remove the cover and put it away. I figured it must have smelled like some sort of animal to him.

I heard that taking a soft toothbrush and brushing the fabric makes the fabric soft again. I haven't had any problems with my microfiber except for the static! Dryer sheets worked great to fix that problem though! When I purchased my furniture I got the Scotch Guard (Guardian Fabric Protection) on it and it has a 10 year warranty. Only like 75 bucks for the spray. And I have a microfiber sectional and a chair and a half that is also microfiber. It covers food and beverage stains, mold or mildew stains caused by food or beverages, and also human or pet bodily fluids. If I get a stain that I can't handle, they come out and clean it professionally. And if its unable to be cleaned, they will replace the fabric. It was worth it!

So a few days ago my two year old son Connor poured his soy milk all over my love seat. I got on this web site and took someones advice and used normal everyday soap and water, back to normal. My living room is still clean and fresh and so is my furniture.

i have a very light cream sofa and i find that alcohol 96 gets most stains out all you need to do is pat it on with a peach of cotton wool test it in a small area first to see if the color fades.

I would NEVER in a million years own another microfiber anything! The saleman told me that it was great with kids because it should clean well and the stains don't soak in to the fabric. That was not the case my son has had some accidents on the couch and I can not get that pee smell out and my other son slobers which is everywhere!!!

It's horrible I have one child and and it's a pain to kept clean. You can get food and stains out but it's leaves very noticable water marks. I have a camel colored loveseat and I wish I never got the microfiber material. The guy at the store said it was great for kids in the house and it easy to clean and durable. My advice... don't buy it!

I have a red microfiber couch now for 1 yr. I kept it covered with a red flat sheet for the first 6 months which kept it flawless of course but it was ugly to look at. I have since kept it uncovered. My cat has peed on it a few times. I just unzip the cushion cover and threw it in the wash. It hasn't faded yet. The cotton absorbs some of the pee with you need to cut out. I haven't had any major spills on it besides cat pee. It doesn't smell at all and still looks like new as long as I keep washing the seat cushion covers.

I have a maroon microfiber recliner that is about 3 years old. The professionals wont touch it, but I would like to clean it myself. Does anyone have a soap or cleaner that I should use? If someone has cleaned their furniture I would appreciate knowing what and how to use it. Thank you.

if you have kids don't buy this furniture. Just body oil alone leaves stains. It looks really dark and dingy. Not worth it. If your husbands head sweats it will leave oil from your scalp on the top of the back from resting your head. I do not recommend.

I have had a red, microfiber club chair in my family room as an accent piece for about 2 years now. Now we don't have small children so stains haven't been a major problem, but any stains from accidental spills and splashes have wiped right up with a clean cloth and a little soap and water. I do have cats and a wipe with a wet paper towel picks up the cat hair easy. I love this piece and to me, it's been so easy to care for. Personally, I love the microfiber!

I have had a red microfiber set for two years now and love it! I have a dog and a cat who get on it constantly and, occasionly, have an accident on it. It is a breeze to clean up with regular upholstery cleaner. I would recommend microfiber furniture to anybody.

What does your furniture sales guy say about stains? I've had a camel colored microfiber for 5 years now and I love it. I got it because I have two cockerspaniels who are allowed on the furniture - as they are really inside dogs. There's never been anything that didn't wipe right off. Once in a while I'll take the cushions off the seat part and toss them in the wash. I think I've done that maybe 3 times total. I recommend them.
