I rarely light candles just use them as decorations. But I'd throw away many because they got to dusty. A salesperson at a home decor store gave me this tip: use an old nylon stocking and rub on the candle. It removes dust like magic. Also works on dusty blinds.

RE: Cleaning Candles
Rubbing alcohol on a soft cloth also works well to clean dust and dirt on candles.
Do "not" use alcohol to clean the candle if you ever plan to light the wick. Alcohol is an accelerant. Although it will evaporate on the surface, it may soak into the wick. Plain water will rinse the dust off and keep scent (if any) in tact. If the candle has designs, use a soft toothbrush or cotton swab soaked in water to clean dust from the grooves.
Good luck. (02/17/2005)
