Sweating and odor, I will admit to it. I have tried a few things out there with no success till now. I thought I let you know what is working for me that I just discovered.

I first clean off my armpits with alcohol with baby wipes. Then I put a few drops of tea tree oil on a cotton ball and dab it on my armpits. I let it air dry and then you can put on your favorite deodorant. It really works (both tea tree and alcohol kill bacteria). So what do you use?

Mix baking soda and cornstarch together and puff it on. The baking soda kills the odor and the cornstarch limits the perspiration. This is a great all over powder.

Also, I take a chlorophyll tablet every day. That kills the odor from the inside out. (A charcoal tablet works well, also, but if you take any medication, it can absorb the meds.)

Vinegar. I use it all summer.

I've read somewhere (maybe here) that in a pinch antibiotic hand washing gel works as a deodorant. Kills germ!

Mouthwash works very well. Sweating is necessary and deodorant cloggs glands. But odor control is necessary. I have used mouthwash in cotten pads for years.

I use one of those crystal stones that you dampen and then apply to your armpits.

Yes, I've been dousing my pits with alcohol regularly during the summer months. But, what works even better is Listerine. Buy only the original & unsweetened amber kind, not the blue mint or citrus. Not only does Listerine have alcohol in it, it also has menthol & eucalyptus which also kill fungus as well. Also, it really helps to take a zinc supplement daily if you have body odor or excess sweating. Zinc can help prevent body odor.

For some reason, as good as Tea Tree oil works, it's smell makes me want to gag! Sadly, I just can't stomach it.

Dear Tom, If you are a male and use tea tree oil on a regular basis, please be aware that there are studies that link tea tree oil with gynomastica (Male breast growth). Tea tree oil is great but be aware of current research.

Archived on 09/04/2009

I have B.O. problems and wet circles under my armpits. Deodorant doesn't work for me. Please help!

RE: Body Odor Remedies

Try Tom's of Maine. It will not help with wetness, but it kills the odor. I use it with "CoolMax" like materials which typically smell with the least amount of sweating. Tom's of Maine stops me from having odor. You can get it at most pharmacies in the deodorant section. (05/01/2007)

RE: Body Odor Remedies

You may need to switch deodorants regularly. Also, I know a friend of mine that literally puts on 25+ strokes a day so that she won't have BO. You may need to really lay it on thick so that it will work and prevent BO. Also, have you tried going to the doctor/endocrinologist? They can run all sorts of hormone tests to see if there is a problem. Good luck. (05/02/2007)

RE: Body Odor Remedies

My teen daughter used to have this problem. A friend's mom told her about a product "Certain Dri" which I got at a local grocery/drug store. You put it on at night, then use your normal deodorant/antiperspirant the next morning. After only a few weeks use she was able to stop using it completely and has no more problem. She's also shared it with some of her friends and it worked for them too. Less than $5 for a small roll-on bottle that lasted a long time. (05/02/2007)

RE: Body Odor Remedies

I think Mitchum's antiperspirant is still on the market. They used to advertise "it's so strong you can skip a day". Also, I've seen ads for botox for this. It's a more serious solution, but you might google it and get some info on it. (05/02/2007)

RE: Body Odor Remedies

Vinegar. I wipe vinegar on my underarms mostly during the summer, but anytime I have BO problems. I also will take vinegar pills. It kills the bacteria causing that bad BO. Hope it works, it does for me. (05/02/2007)

RE: Body Odor Remedies

Regular Deodorants are very bad for you and stop your body from the natural process of sweating. A Health Food Store can help you. I just use regular rubbing alcohol. Dr. Weil a Natural Doctor suggest it and it works for me. You just splash it on. If I start to smell I just splash more on. (05/02/2007)

RE: Body Odor Remedies

Type "deodorant stone" in your search engine and you will find scads of places that sell them. It's a natural stone and all you do is rub it on while your body is still wet from the shower. It will last over a year and believe me, it works. (05/02/2007)

RE: Body Odor Remedies

Some natural odor helpers would be tea tree essential oil, lemonbalm essential oil, there are others too, but I'm unable to recall. I agree that you should see a doctor there is a chance that you are having an allergic reaction to a food product or as stated above, hormones, they do crazy things. (05/02/2007)

RE: Body Odor Remedies

I read the other feedbacks first, and I happen to disagree with those who suggest an antiperspirant. I believe you should try the woman's suggestion of rubbing alcohol or purchase a Crystal Stick, a product you can find at most drug stores, etc. It does not contain Aluminum Chlorohydrate. I use it, as well as my husband, and we swear by it. I actually keep it right in my shower since it needs moisture to be applied. It is simply made of natural mineral salts and is free of perfumes and chemicals. One stick will last you well over a year. Good luck, I hope something here will help. (05/02/2007)

RE: Body Odor Remedies

I use lime juice. Please don't use lemon juice because it is too strong. (05/04/2007)

RE: Body Odor Remedies

What you have is a medical problem. There are several things the doctor will advise you to do. Easiest ones first. New Clinical Strength Secret over the counter. If that doesn't work, there is a prescription deodorant. These are much more powerful than regular deodorant and some can lead to irritation. Next, some people are having excellent results with Botox. It paralyzes the sweat glands and it works for up to a year. It does require several sticks under the arm, but insurance usually pays for medical conditions. Talk to your doctor right away. You should not have to suffer. There are ways to control this. Good luck. (05/05/2007)

RE: Body Odor Remedies

After much experimenting, I have found taking Apple cider vinegar tablets did the trick for me. I take at least 500 mg. with lunch and dinner. I took it originally to stop my acid reflux, which it does, but I also started noticing less armpit smell. Now I only use the liquid crystal deodorant I get from Walmart, along with the cider pills daily. (05/07/2007)

RE: Body Odor Remedies

For underarm odor, use a cotton ball with rubbing alcohol to clean the underarm area, let dry, then apply deodorant. (05/15/2007)

RE: Body Odor Remedies

Try using essential oil blends. Pick a nice one, rose for a female, or sandalwood if you are a male. The essential oils kills the bacteria causing the odours and leave a nice scent behind. Also, not sure if you are a female or male, but shaving helps. (05/25/2007)

RE: Body Odor Remedies

I have recently tried Suave 24 hour deodorant and antiperspirant and have had great results against body odor. Hope this helps. (12/06/2007)

RE: Body Odor Remedies

I use two products that work great from a company called StonyBrook. They sell a capsule that rids you of odor internally, a hair and body wash that really stops BO. It was a lifesaver for me. www.scenteraser.com (02/28/2008)
