Is the animal carcass gone or is it decomposing in the walls?

My husband used to work for a housing authority and a few times he had been called in to clean and paint an apartment or house that the occupant had died and been in the apartment for a week or more in the summer and no one checked on them, and needless to say when they were discovered ,well you can imagine what it was like, but he took plain old charcoal that you use to bar b que with and put that through out the house and in a matter of a few days the odor was gone. Hope this helps.
