I don't know whether 2 get a long, spiky mohawk, and shave the sides (which I really don't want 2 shave the sides) or leave the rest of my hair the way it is, and just cut the mohawk kinda short. My hair is short, like 7 inches from the top. My mom probably wont let me dye it, but maybe. if she wont let me dye it black, then ill dye it red. I wont look good with a shaved head at all. Maybe it'll help if you keep it a bit longer, also keep bangs in front, that will help if you're self conscious about your face :). Post By :] (Guest Post) (09/06/2008) I got a fohawk 2 months ago and I love it. You should definately go for it. All my guy friends told me I was hotter before, but I don't care. I love it. The sides are about an inch long now & the stylist had cut the top wayy too short so its only 5 or 6 inches tall. So if anyones going to do it make sure you tell them to leave the top plenty long. If you want really bright colors I figured out that you can spray in a little hair wax just to get the top the general shape of the hawk & then put in any color acrylic paint. The paint makes it solid as a rock so you can grow it extremely long & you can have ANY color. Of course you should also do permanent colors too, but when you're in the mood for change everyday paint works just like gel! It's awesome. & It washes out fairly easily. I would definately get one. I just woke up one day & decided to do it & I don't think I'm growing it out anytime soon. It's the most convienent hair for shows! I didn't have the guts though, so I just got it shorter. I saw this page and really really want it done. However, I don't want to coz I've done quite a bit of modeling. It's always been my fall back plan, although its not a career path I want to follow. I enjoy it and I don't want to jeopardize good commercial, well paid work. So maybe when I've got some better qualifications or discussed it with someone at the modeling agency. For now I think I'll get my mum to knit one of these. I would cut the remaining top hair into a kind of broad bangs, leaving the ears free. Now you can just let the hair hang or put it up. Don't shave the sides too high! I've had 7 mohawks in the past 5 years, short, tall, blonde, purple, they're easy maitnence (Cept for putting them up lol) and they just look freakin awesome! I use Finness firm hold hairspray and my straigtner, when I had my 14inch hawk I used knox gelletain, you can get it in grocery stores, it keeps your hair like a rock but is it ever hard to get out of your hair! It gets my hair straight and sticky too! Perfect for a mohawk and makes it easier to stand up. You might want to try it too, but maybe before you cut it into a mohawk, I'm not sure if it works on every hair ;) Play around with it for abit, don't use too much water, don't get your hair all wet, just use a little soap foam and blowdry it with a comb. Post By Ashley (Guest Post) (01/25/2008) Well if it's stiff enough you can get dressed like always but if it's not, the ends will probably fray out. Um, as for sleeping, I sleep on my stomach with my head to the side but you can sleep on your side as well. I just find it easier to stay that way so I don't roll over. You have to learn how to sleep without moving or your mohawk will look really bad in the morning. The best thing for that is sleep with a lot of pillows on each side of you, making it harder for you to turn over. Once you get used to it, you can sleep without them. Then just fix the tips in the morning, they usually look a bit messed up when you wake up but nothing major Hope this helped. Had one over the summer, school came around and it grew out a bit (never actually shaved the sides, so it was actually just like an extreme fauxhawk) then my school OK'd me to get it but not spike, it. DUDE< SENT FROM ABOVE! So now, its even more awesome before. So if your scared about it being permanant, don't shave the sides, just get them cut really short and then get bangs. I'm a girl, and for the past few years Ive beening wanting one so badly and finally got the courage to get it done this year. I LOVE it. It's SO easy to take care of and it's the easiest hair I've had to deal with when going to shows (I have really thick wavy hair, so you can imagine what a mosh pit would do to a shoulder length amount of that!!) Now that its short I barely need to think about it. Yeah I get some weird looks now and then, and a lot of guys have told me they liked my longer hair better, but I could really care less. If they're going to judge me on my appearance then that's their shallow decision. But I have also gotten a lot MORE compliments from people on my hair. It's fun to get the attention but I'm learning really quick that people don't like to hire mohawkers, especially girls. I'm scared to death as well, but I've wanted one since I was 3 and I've finally decided to just go for it. Only problem is I'm a receptionist and I can't wear it to work. One thing I haven't noticed anyone mention in this thread is the possibility of a wig. I have found a couple that look nice that I'll wear to work and I can have the hawk on my own time. So as a word of encouragement to anyone who wants a mohawk but knows it's impossible to pull of 24/7 for whatever reason, don't forget wigs! Find one that's close to your look and get it cut to fit your face. When worn right a lot of people don't know the difference. I love mohawks, but won't lose my job over it. I'm going to go get the sides shaved soon enough but I wish it had more height, the girl cut it a little short.
