Melted Plastic on an Electric Hob

I've just managed to melt a big lump of plastic on my electric hob. The bulk of it I have removed but the remainder is proving difficult. Any suggestions what to do?

What kind of plastic is it? Would nail polish remover get it; it removes acrylic nails (test first) If it is just on the burner coil(s), remove the coil, wrap the connection thoroughly and water tight with aluminum foil and try cleaning it with spray-on over cleaner.
