Grandma's Buttermilk Biscuits

Ingredients:

  • 2 1/2 cup self-rising flour
  • 1/2 cup lard
  • 1 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar

Directions:

Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Grease baking sheet. Mix in a large bowl. Mix flour, salt and sugar together. Cut in the lard. Stir in buttermilk and gently mix.

With floured hands, knead dough to form a ball adding additional flour as needed. Break off small portions and roll to decided biscuit size. Frequently flour hands.

OR: Using a floured rolling pin, roll dough to 1/4 - 1/2 inch thickness. Cut biscuits and place on greased baking sheet. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown. Makes 12-15 biscuits.
