Use these to fill with homemade lotions, body washes, or even decorate canning jars for xmas salts or homemade food items. Make your own etched candle votives too!

You will need:

  • Glass Jar, votive or bottle
  • Stencil
  • Tape
  • Gallery Glass Etching Medium
  • Newspaper
  • Small Paint brush

Instructions:

Lay newspaper down on flat surface where you will be working.

Place your stencil on the jar and center the stenciled image where you want it, and tape it there tightly. Make sure it is even and flat with no gaps between the stencil and the jar. This is key.

Shake your etching medium, and paint on a thin layer in the stencil area, but make sure you don't go out side the stencil and etch that area around it.

A thin to medium layer of etching medium is best. Don't go too crazy.

Let dry and remove stencil.

Tada! A pretty etched glass bottle or jar.

On TV`s All Year Round With Katie Brown(A&E) on Sundays I`ve seen her do stencilling using the etching medium(bought at most craft stores) As a matter of fact:Last Sunday she made glass planters etched with the names of herbs she planted. It was easy and really beautiful.Check either A&E (for May 22/05) or Katie Brown`s show

This sounds like a great idea, though I must confess I have no idea what an "etching medium" is. I expect you could also do pretty much the same thing with a Dremmel, though I've never tried... and you would surely want to wear eye protection and a face mask that would keep you from breathing the ground glass. I expect there are precautions which must be observed using an etching medium as well. If that stuff will etch glass you probably don't want it on your hands (or in your eyes).
