If winter comes and you still haven't gathered a good supply of dry kindling, see whether your supermarket will give you some of the waxed cardboard boxes that are used to ship fresh vegetables to market. Cut them into strips of convenient size with a utility knife. You'll find that 3 or 4 (3x4-inch) pieces are probably enough to ignite small logs.
But as a word of CAUTION, if you use too much you take the chance of producing a very quick, hot blaze that could trigger a chimney fire.
