Reselling Denim Clothing

If I buy denim at a thrift store and paint it, can I put my own label on the denim to resell?

As you did not manufacture the denim article itself, you cannot put your own label on it. What you can do is sell it as 'such and such denim" embellished by whatever name you choose to call yourself. You probably don't even need to name the denim manufacturer. Advertise as embellished by. Good luck. Embellished items usually sell well.
