Have you made potato salad the german way? Same ingredients except the dressing. No mayo. Just add vinegar diluted and bacon fried crisp with the drippings. Good luck
Stuff ANY poultry/game bird with Sauerkraut.....that is the only way it was done in my house!
About 30 years ago, a foster daughter taught me this recipe: Bake a potato for each person. While it is baking, mix half sour cream and half cottage cheese. Add some finely chopped onion and salt and pepper to taste. We love it!
Check out this site:: www.about.com/food You'll see a drop down menu for you to check, just put in German and you'll be surprised at what comes up. You are going to be busy for sure.
Vienner schnitzel is easy and a standard. Spaetzle can be bought ready to boil and is as easy as macaroni. Try a chilled can of 3-bean salad served over lettuce, and German potato salad (though I am unsure how authentic it is) . We lived in Germany for 3 years with the Army, and this menu is similar to our family meals out. Cooking is quite regional, so it depends on what part of Germany he's from. Bless you for taking good care if him ;-)
If you really want to WOW him, try making apple strudel for dessert. With ready-made pastry available, it might not be so complicated.

Sort thru some of these for easier ones, look for ones with fewer ingredients.
