Just add vinegar diluted and bacon fried crisp with the drippings. Spaetzle can be bought ready to boil and is as easy as macaroni. Try a chilled can of 3-bean salad served over lettuce, and German potato salad (though I am unsure how authentic it is) . We lived in Germany for 3 years with the Army, and this menu is similar to our family meals out. Cooking is quite regional, so it depends on what part of Germany he's from. Bless you for taking good care if him ;-) If you really want to WOW him, try making apple strudel for dessert. With ready-made pastry available, it might not be so complicated.
