Soda Bread

It doesn't have to be St. Paddy's Day to enjoy this tasty Irish bread. ;-)

Ingredients

  • 3 Tbsp. butter, softened
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • Honey and room temperature butter for spreading

Directions

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Grease cookie sheet. Cut butter in to flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder and salt in large bowl until mixture is fine and crumbly. Stir in buttermilk.

Place dough onto lightly floured surface and knead until smooth, about 1 to 2 minutes. Shape into round loaf. Place on cookie sheet and cut an X about 1/2 inch deep on top of loaf. Bake until golden brown, about 35 to 45 minutes.Serve with butter and honey.
