Keeping Ice Cream Fresh

Ice cream will keep better after it has been opened if a piece of waxed paper or plastic wrap is pressed against the surface of the ice cream left in the box/pail and then reseal.

I received this tip so long ago that I can't remember where or who I got it from. However I've been using it ever since and it has always worked for me! To keep ice crystals from forming on ice cream, simply store the container in the freezer upside-down!
Like any frozen product, however, ice cream won't keep forever without going bad....especially when it's been used out of.

RE: Keeping Ice Cream Fresh

To keep your ice cream fresh longer, store it toward the back of the freezer, instead of toward the front close to where the door is being opened and closed all the time.

RE: Keeping Ice Cream Fresh

To prevent ice crystals from forming on the ice cream, place plastic wrap directly on the ice cream when in the freezer. A few years ago this was not necessary since the kids never let ice cream stay that long in the freezer. It's only the two of us so this tip helps us keep our ice cream longer. (04/29/2005)
