Can any one help me with a recipe for fish cakes? I made it once before and lost the recipe. It calls for grated raw potatoes, chopped onion, chopped fish. I think we added flour to the potaotes, onions and fish and then made cakes to fry, but I cannot remember what held it all together.

Thanks,

Susan from Hamilton

Egg is needed to keep the batter together.

The usual binder for fish cakes is an egg. The mix for fishcakes is fish, onion, garlic if you like, even carrot, if you like. Then add either bread crumbs, instant mashed potato flakes, or matzo meal. Then add an egg. If you're making fishcakes for 4 people, 1 large egg should suffice.
