Unclogging a Shower Drain |
|
|
When the drains in our house get sluggish, here's what I do. Pour some baking soda in the drain (about 1/2 cup), then about the same amount of white vinegar. Immediately pour in a couple cups of boiling water, and plunge with the plunger. This will loosen and pull up to the top any thing caught in the drain or pipe. This is especially effective with hair in the tub or shower drain.

HELP! My bathtub drain is very very sluggish when I shower. I am standing in lots of water. How do I get rid of all this water? Thanks!
Editor's Note: Quite often hair collects in the drain and keeps it from draining properly. You can take a wire coat hanger and see if you can pull up any hair, if you get any, keep trying to get more. The put about 2 TBSP. of baking soda down the drain and follow it with white vinegar until it stops fizzing. Then run hot water down the drain. That can remove the other clogs.

The baking soda and vinegar worked great! It completely unclogged my shower drain. This simple solution will save me a call to the plumber! Thanks a lot!

Hey I have done everything I know to try and get my shower drain opened. Nothing has worked so far. What I am wondering, is there a trap inside the drain and its not staying open long enough for the water to drain out.It will drain some but then it just fills back up and you can plunge it and it goes down. and fills up again. I am so confused. This is crazy. Please help.

that is all well and good, but our drain cover is screwed on and hard to remove. what is something good to put over it that will stay in one place, let the water go down and catch the hair before it goes down, and is easy to remove and replace? thanks pls reply directly to banjolady.susan@verizon.net

I use my old toothbrushes to clean my shower drain--the toothbrush collects hair like you would not believe--I use rubber gloves and put the toothbrush in the shower drain and it really pulls out the hair. Then, I keep doing that until I get it all. Works Great!

I had a plumber tell me to pour NEAT, NAIR or any other hair removal cream down the drains in my bathroom to unclog them because mostly it's hair that's stuck in the drain. I've been doing this for years now and it works great. I pour it down, let it sit about 30 minutes and then run the tap for about 10 minutes to wash it all away.
