Environmental Impact of Plastic Pen Barrels

Can you please tell me about the harmful effects of plastic barrel pens to the environment? I am a member of Green Pen Campaign Vietnam (Green Pen Campaign is a non-profit project, powered by the 2010 Bayer Young Environmental Envoy program), we need these information ( figures, documents, etc.) to carry out this project.
