Agencies that Help with Home Repairs?

How would I qualify to get help with some repairs needed in my home? I live alone and I've slipped getting out of my bathtub. The only thing that broke my fall was I grabbed on to the shower pole to break the fall. The shelves in my kitchen cabinets are held up with can goods, the area where the cabinet was attached to the wall has broken away from the wall. My bathroom door has to be lifted up to close it and then it's hard to pull it open. The folding door on my utility door has broken off the tracks which makes it hard to open or close. Lastly, the carpet on my floors is buckling up in several areas. I'm living on a fixed income which is just enough to keep my bills paid, God forbid when it's time to refill the medication I have to take everyday, that's when I have to decide if I'm going to get my medicine or go to buy groceries. I don't have anywhere else to turn too.

I would contact Habitat for Humanity, HUD.org, local churches and social services.

Almost all agencies that help with any type of home repairs have qualifying forms on their web sites. You say you are on a 'fixed income' but in actuality, most people are on a fixed income - one sort or another.

You do not say if you are a senior, or if the fixed income is Social Security or if you are disabled in any way.

Usually, qualifying will consist of one or more of the following:
Senior, low income, receiving government assistance (food stamps, Medicaid), disabled/handicapped.

It appears that your problems have been accumulating over a period of years and one agency will probably only do one or two repairs at a time.
After qualifying, everyone is put on a list and it may take some time before your name reaches the top as emergency repairs and repairs where children are involved will usually take precedence over 'general repairs'.

A local church is always a good place to start with 'handyman' repairs as they generally have members who can do repairs like this, especially for their senior members.

If this does not work then your next step would be to try and find agencies in your area that might be able to help. Google free home repairs with your zip code and start applying to all the agencies to see if you qualify for their help.

You can check any of these sites to see if they have help available in your area
Habitat for Humanity (your zip code)
HUD - your zip code
