Aggressive Male Gouldian Finch?

My pair of gouldian finch have a brood of 3 chicks. The chicks are about 15 days old and quite demanding. Recently I have noticed that the male is becoming aggressive to his mate and not allowing her to feed or sit in the nest. She wants to feed her chicks and care for them but everytime she gets close the male chases her off and starts pecking at her. How can I stop this behavior? I'm getting quite concerned for my female. This is the pair's first successful brood.

You absolutely need to separate them as soon as possible.
A male can become so aggressive he may kill the female.
He wants to keep her mating with him. Not sitting on the eggs or raising the babies.
Please remove him to another cage as soon as possible.
Males will sometimes attack and kill their own chicks as well in order to keep the female mating with him.
It's horrible, but sadly true.

Funny thing is he is raising his chicks alone. He is aggressive not cause he wants to continue mating but because he doesn't want her near the nest. He's caring for the chicks alone. I did remove him and that isn't going to work.

She's not going to the nest. Now she has no interest in the chicks. I had to put him back in and his time out must have done some good. He calmed down.

Hopefully, since the aggressive male has calmed down, he will continue caring for the babies and refrain from being aggressive with the female. Although this will not help your current situation, I would suggest that you buy some Society finches and read up on the process of having society finches incubate the Gouldin's eggs and raise the babies once the eggs hatch.

Society finches make excellent foster parents for various types of finches that aren't very good at parenting.

Already have society finch pair for that reason. I figured that I would leave the chicks because they are being cared for and male gouldian is doing a great job maintaining chicks alone. I just never seen a finch get aggressive to his mate over possession of the chicks. It's like he doesn't recognize his mate as the other parent bird. This has gone on a few days now. It seems to reset everytime I remove him from cage or overnight. If I leave them alone he does eventually calm down and doesn't chase her as much. It's so strange though. He treats her like a threat or a bird who doesn't belong there.

You need to separate them. Hopefully he will be less aggressive with a soccer female
