Baked onions can be served as a side to various types of roasted meats. Baking can bring out the sweetness in onions, and you can also, add honey to vinegar or tomato juice to pour over them prior to baking. Try one of more of these simple recipes.

Such an easy way to enjoy onions, especially when you got 3 pounds for 99 cents. Baking makes them sweet.

  • 2-4 whole onions


  1. Place onions on a pan to catch the juice.
  2. Bake at 350 degrees F for around 30 minutes. If there are other things in the oven you may want to cook longer.
  3. Peel and eat.

  • 4-6 medium flat onions
  • 3 Tbsp. butter
  • 1 cup tomato juice
  • 8 Tbsp. honey
  • 3 tsp. seasoned salt
  • 2 tsp. paprika


Cut onions in halves crosswise. Put in greased casserole dish. Combine other ingredients and pour over onions. Bake at 350 degrees F, covered, for 1 hour. Nice compliment for pork roast, ham, and turkey. Baste during cooking.

  • 6 medium onions
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup white vinegar
  • 1/4 cup boiling water
  • 1/4 cup butter or margarine


Peel onions; cut a thin slice from tops, and slash cut surfaces of onions with a shallow x. Place onions in a 12 x 8 x 2 inch baking dish. Combine sugar and remaining ingredients, stirring until sugar dissolves; pour over onions. Cover and bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour or until tender.

  • 6 medium yellow onions
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 Tbsp. margarine
  • 2 Tbsp. chopped parsley


Peel onions and cut into halves crosswise. Arrange in 7x11 inch glass dish. Pour honey over top. Dot with margarine. Microwave, loosely covered with waxed paper, on high for 8-10 minutes or until tender, basting with pan juices twice. Sprinkle with parsley. Let stand for 3 minutes. 12 servings.
