We are having a really bad winter and have a lot of snow. I had been using Kitty Litter on my stairs and walkway but it was messy. I now use wild bird seed and it provides "grip", plus I enjoy watching the birds!

I hate to be Debbie Downer but we already have a problem keeping our neighbors chickens off of our carport. If we used birdseed for the ice and snow wed never get rid of them.
What a great idea! And not only providing slip protection you are giving back to nature by feeding the birds who have little to eat in the cold winter months! Thank you for sharing!!!!
Wouldn't bird seed also attract mice and rats?
The birds are usually pretty hungry this time of the year and clean it up quickly. But if you are in an area where this is a great concern, it would probably be better to use something else.
