I've recently bought a Brother sewing machine and it was working perfectly. Yesterday I started sewing and noticed stitching issues. What happens is the bottom stitch comes up, but the top stitch doesn't penetrate the fabric. The top stitch is looped under the bottom stitch, but the top stitch can be easily pulled out since it never went into the fabric. I've rethreaded the machine multiple times and changed the needle. The bobbin threads itself. I'm new to sewing and not sure how to describe what the problem is so I hope this description accurately conveys the issue.
Thank you!

This happens quite a bit and is rather an easy fix. First, remove the bobbin and casing from the machine. Now remove the plate from the area and clean the inside of this area. Add 1 drop of oil to this area and put back the plate. Add the bobbin back to the canister and make sure you have the bobbin in the right way.
Now take the thread out of the machine. Normally there is a screw on the side panel that can come off so you can change the lightbulb. Open this up and check for any pieces of thread that could be broken or wrapped around one of the arms inside this area. You should look with a flashlight.
Now thread the machine again. I would also remove the needle and inspect the needed. Make sure it is sharp and has no issue. Put this back in the machine. Now thread the machine again.
Normally this issue comes when the machine is not threaded correctly, the thread is in the arm of the machine in the area of the lightbulb or you have some dirt in the bobbin area.
Thank you for the suggestion about cleaning the machine. Ill see if that cures the problem.
The tension may also need to be adjusted w/ your machine. In the manual it gives information regarding adjusting the tension.
