I have 2 very ugly rather large dog crates residing in my family room. Any ideas to camouflage these would be great.

Cover them with pretty tablecloths or throws.
I have a similar problem at home. I put a wood plank to cover both on top then put a cute throw over. Looks like a cute little table.
There are so many choices that I am sure you will be able to find something suitable to your decor. Many of the following items can be found at thrift stores for bargain prices:
Shower curtains, medium weight curtain panels, (twin, full, queen, king size) flat sheets, even bay crib sheets will fit, throws (these can be found at stores in all colors/themes), large beach towels.
Be aware of air movement so your doggies will always have a full supply of fresh air. I believe it is best to only cover parts and leave the lower parts open for good air flow. Only use covers when you feel the need.
Cover with a nice table cloth, maybe put a decoration piece on top
Do you have a desk where you can fit the crates underneath?
Slide them to under a table and cover. Look on pinterest, there are a whole bunch of photos on there of ways to cover them or make them look like cabinets or other furniture.
