Cat Has Rash On Belly and Is Losing Fur?

My cat has a scaly red rash on his belly and fur is falling out. What can it be? I don't have a lot of money to go to a expensive vet. Can someone help by telling me what it can be and how serious it might be?

People have said coconut oil works well. If you are trying home remedies and they don't work, you will have to visit a vet.

It could be a food allergy, but to be sure you would need to ask a vet. You might could take him to the animal shelter and they could have someone look at him or refer you to someone who won't charge you a lot of money.
