Cat Losing Hair?

calico cat with hair lossA couple of months after giving birth my cat began losing hair by her tail. And it seems as though it is spreading. This was the second time she had kittens, but this has never happened before.

As your cat has had babies recently, she may have a nutritional problem as she must provide all the milk for her babies from the food you feed her. Please take her to your vet immediately to check on the problem and provide the best treatment for her and her babies. Any delay will cdertainly worsen the condition and may harm the babies.

This can be caused by nutritional deficiencies. When cats are nursing, most of the nutrition from their food goes to the milk.
It should clear up now the kittens are weaned. Since she has had kittens before, my guess is she never recovered her nutrition levels completely after the first time.

It appears you have a piebald calico tabby like mine. These are great cats and I can see why you'd want more. But they are not rare or valuable and I assume you are not a licensed breeder. Since your cat's health is suffering, please have her spayed. She should recover her proper nutritional balance as long as she has no more kittens.

This was a major problem for us. Our one cat had licked his butt, tail, and stomach hairless and raw. After going through a lot of trying to find out why, and trying to help, we found the reason. The cat litter we had used for 30 years and used for numerous generations of kitties, had changed their formula and he was allergic to it.

We switched to torn up newspapers and the problem cleared immediately. After years of torn up newspapers our newspaper stopped and we were left without, We went back to a generic litter and that worked till lately, where our older kitty now has the problem so must work on this again.
