Caterpillar Photos

Category Wildlife
These colorful garden visitors may be reviled for the damage some of them wreak on our plants and veggies, but they are also the larval stage of moths and butterflies, that delight us later in the season. This guide contains caterpillar photos.

This shot makes me think of a tight rope walker at the circus. We always think they're either so brave or so silly, up there on that rope, but at least they have safety nets below them! This little critter just amazed me! Here he is, crawling along a thorny blackberry branch above what would, to him, be a massive drop off, with no saftey nets, no wires, no tricks. He's just trying to make it from point A to point B.

I wonder, do those thorns hurt him the same way they sting me when I'm not careful? I'd love to be as brave as this caterpillar!

I found this lovely fuzzy caterpillar crawling up my front door one morning. I wonder what kind of a butterfly he will make someday. Love the colors!
