These gooey, sweet, and incredibly decadent bars are oh, so naughty but they taste amazing.

Steps:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Unwrap caramels.
  2. Mix flour, oatmeal, sugar, soda, salt, and butter together. Put 3/4 of mixture in greased 9x13 inch pan. Bake 10 minutes at 350 degrees F.
  3. Melt caramels and evaporated milk in microwave. Stir until smooth
  4. Pour caramel mixture over baked crust. Sprinkle remaining crust and chocolate chips over the caramel.
  5. Bake for 15 minutes at 350 degrees F

  • 2/3 cup evaporated milk
  • 1 box devil's food cake mix
  • 3/4 cup butter or margarine, melted
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts, (opt.)

Directions

In top of double boiler over boiling water, stir caramels and 1/3 cup evaporated milk until caramels are melted and mixture is smooth. Keep warm over hot water. Or, place caramels and 1/3 cup evaporated milk in microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on medium for 6-7 minutes, stirring after 3 minutes and then after each 1 minute, until caramels are melted and mixture is smooth. In large bowl, using mixer at medium speed, beat cake mix, melted butter, and remaining 1/3 cup evaporated milk, 2 minutes.

Spread half the batter in greased 9x13 inch baking pan. Bake in preheated 350 degrees F oven for 8 minutes. Cool on rack 2 minutes. Pour caramel mixture evenly over baked layer; tilt pan to cover completely. Sprinkle with chocolate chips. Stir 1/2 cup walnuts into remaining batter, if desired. Drop by spoonfuls evenly over chocolate chip layer. Sprinkle with remaining 1/2 cup walnuts, if desired. Bake in (preheated) 350 degree F oven 20 minutes. Cool on rack. If necessary, chill before cutting into bars. Makes about 48.

Does any one have a recipe for what I would call a bar cookie, with these ingredients: probably premixed chocolate chip cookie dough with caramel sauce, then either chococolate frosting or melted chocolate chips, topped with whole chocolate chips and nuts? If you haven eaten at Golden Corral, it is on their dessert bar. Thank you.

There are so many recipes that this sounds like. If you are willing to use the bought dough, just buy a jar of ice cream caramel to put on top and bake. You are supposed to drop the cookie dough bits on top of the caramel too. I love using the choco-chip along with oatmeal and caramel. Recipe called caramelette bar. Go to www.allrecipes.com and see the variety.
