Choosing an eReader

When looking for an eBook reader, the first question to ask is whether you need WiFi to set up the reader? If so, ask that they help you set it up in the store, especially if you have no WiFi at home.

Do you want a color eReader or just eInk? With a color eReader, you can download your pictures. Do you want to do more than reading books with your eReader? Once you know what you want to do with the reader and have reviewed the different readers online, check the prices and get the best deal possible.

I think you also want to investigate the language the ereader uses. Makes a difference when you are about to download. I.e. Kindle has it's own language, others use Mobi or Pdf.

As I understand this, the languages are not interchangeable. Good luck.

Do people that read ThriftyFun spend that much money to read books that they could read for free? That doesn't seem very thrifty to me. Maybe spend the money on a netbook. Then you automatically have color for pictures, and you can do a lot more with it.

I love my Kindle, and suggest everyone who enjoys reading, get one. I suggest the one with WI-Fi and 3G. It costs $189.00, or a little less if you get one with special offers on. You can down load a book anywhere free, even if you do not have Wi-FI available.

The Kindle is light weight, has a screen you can read in the sun, voice activated.(meaning it can read to you, with or without ear phones). You can change the size of the print. You can hook up to Google. Every one has a Kindle e-mail address and designate who can send e-mails to you on your Kindle.

As of last fall you can get books from your local library free. This saves driving to library to pick up or return books. They automatically are returned to library. Everyday I get an e-mail listing free books from Amazon, and believe me, I have downloaded many of them. My Kindle will hold 3,500 books. I have free games, free cookbooks, and free "how to " books.

When I go someplace, I don't feel dressed until I have my Kindle in my hand or in my purse. The covers are a little pricey from Amazon, so I got one from Ebay.

Thanks for all your feedback! I want more than just free books on an eReader, and yes, I think thriftyfun readers may have these nifty things. It's the easiest place I could ask for opinions, and I hope more will come along.

Another consideration after I bought mine is whether it is touch screen or not. I bought a cheaper one for my grandsons for Christmas and they thought it was touch screen which makes it easier to use if you download games also on the ereader. The cheaper one I got has a keyboard which is nice to use but some games won't play without a touch screen.

I like it though and can download books for them when they come to visit when I don't have a big selection of children's books available here.
