My sister has done plenty of hotel parties. What my mom did was the boys could stay during the day but their parents would have to pick them up before any of the girls went to bed. I hope this helps! :)

Today is my daughter's 13th birthday, and she requested to invite boys to her sleep-over. I said yes. I think that staying away from all the gender-stereotyping that's so prevalent these days will help my kids to be more confident about being their own, unique selves. Of course, the boys will NOT be sleeping in the same room as the girls, but rather will be spending from 9pm on hanging out in my son's room (or possibly the living room) playing video games until they crash out.

I won't be getting any sleep, but as a parent of 4 children, I'm pretty used to that already!! The girls and I will be doing manicures and mud masks until bedtime.

My daughter is turning 13 in January. She has no idea what she wants to do for her birthday, but knows she wants to do something special. She wants friends over (about 8-10, boys and girls), but it's a challenge to have a party at our house.

She doesn't want to do anything really expensive and doesn't like super sporty, or retro themed parties. Any ideas?

Teen girls love to put on makeup. Why not have a makeup party where they can give each other facials, paint their nails and do their hair.

You could also take them bowling and have a pizza party for them.

Have a sleep over and a movie night. They can each bring a movie of their choice to watch at your home.

You can goto your grocery store and buy premade pizza crusts (dough is too messy for this type of party) and the kids can make their own pizzas. They may even have personal sized rounds. Frozen puff pastry works, as well. Or you can have them assemble quesadillas - they do nicely folded in half and baked on a cookie sheet. Kids like food and most of them have fun creating things they are going to eat. Ingredients are affordable for both. It serves as entertainment and a "time killer". A little background music from her playlist and it'll be fun.

Win, lose, or draw, Taboo, or any team oriented game.

Piñatas are fun.

Rent a kareoke machine?

It will be cold in January. Stick with indoor activities like bowling, movies or skating. Many places have group deals where you get the activity, pizza and soda. You probably have to bring your own cake.

I'm turning 13 soon and want to do something with around 20 people. I want both boys and girls to come and nothing over $200. All suggestions would be great, but I'm not looking for any movie things. My birthday is the start of March.

Thank you.

Many people suggest pizza parties, bowling or even skating. These can add up to a good sum of money in the end. It sounds like you are on a budget and need something else to do that will not cost so much money.

Look around your area and see if you can rent a hotel room for the day and have your party there. You can bring in your own food and host video games and even a dance party.

Happy early birthday! $200 is a lovely budget and if you plan wisely you can have quite the event!

My best suggestion for a group that size is to see if you can rent the pool at a local hotel and have a swim party. There are some that include food in the package.

If your home is large enough to accommodate 20, stay home and have cake decorating (or cookie or cupcake) contest party--You can have 4 groups of 5 people who try outdo each other with crazy decorations on your chosen dessert.

Advertisement

You can get the "fixings" (icings, sprinkles and such) really reasonable--sometimes less than a dollar each.

The nice thing here is the dessert is then the food for the party so it does double duty! It actually does triple duty as it will allow for a lot of funny videos and Instagram or Snapchat or whatever social medial venue you do...photo ops!

Wishing you an amazing day and year!

For 20 people at $200 you might want to do something like an indoor pizza party at an arcade. Feed everyone but have them do their own gaming etc

My daughter is turning 13 in March. She wants to finally have a boy-girl party, but we live in a townhouse so we can't have a lot of people over; and she is embarrassed of how small our house is. She really wants to have a laser tag party, but every place I look up, is either 30, 20, or 15 dollars per person with a minimum of 8-10 people. We have no idea what to do.

She wants to invite about 10-20 people, all are 12-13 years old, I have cleared that with her, but she is going to have mostly girls. She might just want a pool party, but that's not open until June. I feel really bad because we don't have much money to just throw around. She really wants to make this an amazing party because she is inviting her "crush". I am a clueless mom from the 80s (lol) so I think easy, but this generation is crazy and I need to get caught up. Please help!

You could have a scavenger hunt. Break them into 4 teams or so. Take them downtown (if it is a safe area) or just in your neighborhood. You can make a list of things to find or do and have them take pictures. It will take at least an hour and they won't be in the house. Also, if you have a garage, take the cars out, move the junk to the sides and have a dance party in the garage! A lot of fun for the early teens. I would keep playing the fast songs :) Both ideas are nearly cost free. Good luck.

Check with a YMCA for a indoor pool. Last year I planned a surprise 12th birthday party at the local YMCA. They provided two lifeguards, party room and a hostess. Surprisingly the cost was cheap! We brought decorations, drinks, chips, iPod, favors and ordered pizza.

I am turning 13 July 30th and I have some great ideas of what to do and most importantly they are cheap.My party is an all girl party. You dont have to spend alot of money to have fun! Here are some things I'm doing, maybe you will want to do them too!
* Have an egg toss
* Have a water balloon fight
* I'm going to Skate City (just for the laser tag)
* Play "What's In Your Purse?" -tell all your friends to bring their purse and then make a list of things that moght be in an average purse... the person with the most items in thier purse thats on the list wins!
* Play Truth or Dare, thats always fun.
* Have a blindfolded makeover
* Make a pinata, fill it with candy, and well you know what happens next!
* Have a little fun with some prank calls to friends, family, or even to McDonalds!!
* Have a cake eating contest! - put your hands behind your back and get down on the floor and see who can eat their peice of cake first!
* Have a BBQ.
* Go swimming
* Have a sleepover with all of your friends and stay up ALL night.
* Go to the mall with a list of things you have to find... split up in groups... give each group 25 minutes, and $10.00 per group... the goal is to go around the mall and buy as many things on the list with your money... for example if a pig is on the list, buy a pig or something with a pig on it ... whoever comes back with the most items win!
* Most importantly... HAVE FUN!
I hope i helped! Have an awesome birthday everyone!

Find a way to provide some music the kids would love and play some Minute to Win It type games. I'll bet you'll find some MTWI games or "Teen games" online. Serve pizza and cake and all will be happy!

I'm 13 and this year I basically turned my house into a movie theater...except with a twist. Everybody had to dress up as their favorite actor! There was a red carpet and my aunt & uncle were the paparazzi.

I had a bunch of girls bring blow up mattresses and we watched the movie of our choice on netfllix all night. Everyone got 20 tickets to use at the "concession stand" which my mom ran in the kitchen. We had all sorts of snacks such as popcorn which cost 5 tickets, candy bars (3 tickets), ice cream (4 tickets), caprisun (2 tickets) etc.

It was really fun and everyone enjoyed themselves. PS if you want boys to come just have them leave earlier instead of sleeping over. Oh and just if you were wondering... my mom was J-lo!

We need a fun idea for both genders that is not expensive. Help?

Use some sprinklers in your back yard, if you have one. You can also have a picnic in the park.
