McCormick recommends this recipe. www.mccormick.com/.../creamy-country-chicken-with-vegetables...

If you click on the link that says substitution you will see what they recommend instead of the spice they no longer make.

It is really difficult to figure out McCormick's "formula" for deciding what to discontinue and it is sad they give no warning about something being discontinued.

  • The company states they cannot give a warning because the "scalpers" would visit all stores and buy it out and then charge exorbitant prices on eBay and other sites.
  • They also do not place an item on their discontinued list for at least a year or more for the same reason.
  • This was discontinued in 2016 and I have not found a really true copycat recipe but many are using the recipe that Judy gave from McCormick web site.

  • Here is a link to comments from the public but has several comments from a McCormick's representative as well.

  • Another version of McCormick's recipe.

  • Here is a comment from one reader with her "changes" to the recipe and has had a lot of favorable comments.

I have used some of these suggestions and I always use a bag - so much easier.
  • "I added a can of cream of chicken soup along with a can of water. Also salt & pepper. And my family prefers dark meat over breast so I used skinless thighs as I always did with the McCormick packet. Did not use the sour cream. It just didnt sound right & I was correct. I also did not use potatoes but did add the fresh baby carrots & onion which Ive always done when using the Country Chicken packet.
  • This really does taste like the real thing. Next time Im going to use a cooking bag as the original recipe did."
  • The McCormick recipe uses the Chicken Gravy Package and the may be going out soon as it is getting difficult to find (locally for me).

it looks like it just uses gravy, Lawson's seasoning which is readily available, thyme, salt, sour cream, and something called 'poultry seasoning' which is apparently just
