Choose colors that she and you like. Put her favorite photos posters, put family photos, photos of friends
If you are planning a big gift, then put some gifts choices and let her guess what you have, if there is other big gift also, let her guess too
Or you keep blank gift card in hand and what she guesses you say yes, put the amount and give
That would be a surprise that the gift is guessed right
Follow her cue,make the colors and theme out of what she is into. Celebrate her favorites!
I like that you're going for gender-neutral! If you're artsy-craftsy you might make wall decor, balloons, cake decoration, etc.
Balloons and streamers in her favorite colors will work well.
I was a tomboyish type of child when I was growing up. I would rather have decorations of sports and outdoor activities that suited me than some girls decorations that other girls my own age liked.
If she has a favorite band or sport, you can never go wrong with using those types of decorations. Using her favorite colors integrated within. Or if not, go with the Standard Sweet 16 theme, or use cars. That is what I did.
