Dog Won't Eat?

My Shih Tzu/Poodle mix, male hasn't eaten in 2 days and won't eat anything put in front off him. He's fine though and there are no physical or behavioral changes. Is this normal?

As long as he drinks water this behavior isn't particularly unusual. Dogs go "off their feed" when their stomachs are upset.

This is not an emergency, but if it continues for another day, make an appointment to see the vet. It is possible that something else is wrong, like a bad tooth, and simple stomach upset really shouldn't take that long to clear up.

If your dog refuses to eat anything, he certainly has a problem. Does he drink water? If you do not know exactly what he suffers from, you cannot provide the correct treatment at home.

Please take him to his vet for an examination and appropriate medical treatment. If you delay taking him to your vet, his problem will certainly worsen.

Try warming his food a little in the microwave - sometimes the smells from the warmed food help - [ check that it's not too hot before giving it to the dog ] - I have found a product called NUTRIGEL which is a concentrated vitamin mix, a little bit like a vege spread. On off days I rub some of this on his mouth & gums - it's highly palatable & sometimes stimulates the appetite. Vets sell this product.
