Dresser Drawers Not Fitting?

Just painted this old 7 foot dresser. I marked all drawers to go back to proper place. Sanded the bottom rails, etc. They are in slide well. PROBLEM: they don't go all the way in - flush . May be the top lip of drawer is painted - but it seems more than just that. That is the problem.

If the dresser did not have the same thickness of paint (that you had to sand off) as you applied then your drawers would not close tightly due to the extra/added paint on the front lip of the drawer (where drawer touches the dresser above the opening) and then add the paint that is on the dresser front and that may be what is happening.

I would check out the back of the drawer slides to make sure there is no obstruction but seems like it could just be that added paint.

You may have to sand down some of the new paint to make it close properly.

This should not affect the way the drawers slide back into the dresser at all. Normally this is a problem with the way you have put the drawers back in the dresser. I don't think you have them lined up correctly or sitting on the slide right. A lot of slides will have a small round wheel on the slide that either needs to be put to the front or the back when you are putting the draw in the dresser. I would remove the drawers from the dresser, move the slide all the way to the front and then put it back in making sure that it goes behind the slide.

If this is not working then the slide should be in the back and the draw should be in front of this slide. You will need to play around with the slides of the drawers until you can figure out if the wheels belong towards the back or the front of the slide.

Hi,

I agree with looking on the back of the drawer, for anything that is in the way of the drawer, causing it not to close the right way. I would also sand it down, if it is too thick, in areas where no one will see, since it is in the back of the drawer.

Have a blessed day!
