Function of a Small Green LED on Fluorescent Strip Light

I've noticed a small green LED that's attached to a white and yellow cable next to our office fluorescent strip lights. Does anyone know what this is for?

This is a light emitting LED diode that is attached to the Fluorescent light strips. There are two leads that go to the semiconductor light source. So when the lights are on the p - n junction diode will emit light when it's activated.

Many thanks. What's the purpose of the LED?

It is basically telling you that the light is activated and working. I don't think the LED has any other purpose except to indicate that the light is working correctly and receiving the correct amount of electricity to the strip. There are some places that the electricity fluctuates and this would indicate this when the light would go out or it would flicker.
