Getting Rid of Tiny Black Biting Bugs?

I live in Ohio and get bitten (hard) by these little black insects in the spring and fall, especially when the farmers work in the fields and stir up soil or crops. I believe they are no-see-ums, aka midges, and repellents for them are the same as for mosquitos.

Here is what we use:

  1. After being bitten by the no-see-ums you need to use apple cider vinegar and a clean cotton ball.
  2. Soak the ball in the apple cider vinegar and apply to your skin.
  3. Leave it on the skin for a few minutes and change the cotton. This pulls out the poison under the skin and stops them from itching.
  4. As for stopping them from biting, the best I have ever found is mint oil. The bugs hate the smell of mint oil. You can make your own at home and it is so easy.
  5. You will need a small package of fresh mint and a cheap bottle of cooking oil.
  6. Put these in your blender and mix on high until the oil turns green and the mint is ground up.

  8. Afterwards, transfer this to a saucepan and put this on your stove.
  9. Let it heat, but not boil.
  10. Now you will use a clean cloth and pour this into a bottle.
  11. Apply the oil to your skin. The bugs won't go near this oil and it does smell really good.
  12. We use this in Tahiti for the no-see-ums and it is the only thing that stops them from biting.
  13. To keep these out of your home and yard, you'll need to plant lemongrass. This is a natural bug repellent that works perfectly to repel bugs in your yard.
  14. Lemongrass is also a good repellent on your skin to keep the bugs from biting you.
  15. You can make an oil from the lemongrass the same as you do with the mint.
  16. You can also make a basil oil to apply to your skin to stop the itching and scratching the bites. You will make the basil oil the same way as you do the mint oil.

Living in the topics we are fighting these types of bugs and bites year round. Take it from an expert there is only one way to stop them from biting and that is with mint oil. I have plenty of lemongrass planted around my yard to keep them out of my yard and home.

Avon Skin So Soft works great. Spray or rub on and it keeps the bugs away all day. Tea Tree Oil and taking a bath in vinegar also work but the Skin So Soft is the best by far. They also make a special screen wire for porches that keeps the no-see-ums out pretty well.

Put the bugs in a sealed plastic bag. Take it to a place that sells pesticides and they will identify it and sell you the right product
