Home Repair Assistance for Low Income Disabled Homeowners?

My name is Minnie I'm 63 years old. I'm writing you to ask for help to repair my house. My husband is 71 years old and is disabled and can't work and I'm working part time, not every day, trying to help keep things going. It is hard. Sometimes I have to pay part of my bills so they won't get cut off.

My home was build in the 1950s and we have lived here for 38 years. My house needs work done on it like the foundation, windows, floors, doors, the sheet rock on the walls a deteriorating. In May we had a lot of rainfall and it caused my neighbor's tree to fall on our house. It knocked holes in the roof and crushed the part of the roof that was over our porch and over my closet. In the meantime it rained in my closet and the ceiling in my closet collapsed. Some friends came and fixed some of the roof, but did not finish.

Are there any grants or help that we can qualify for that we don't have to pay back? Please we need help now before it gets cold.

I would contact Habitat for Humanity or HUD.org. Churches can also help.

Ask around, there is nothing like word of mouth! You can also contact contractors to see if there is help your situation. Also the barter system works, there maybe something you can do in return like-Baby sitting, pet sitting, house cleaning, lawn care, etc.Just a few ideas!

If you live in a small home town community I would talk with the paster of your church and explain your situation to start off with. If this one isn't possible you can go to HUD and apply for assistance.

You don't say where you are located, so it will be challenging to give you specifics.

Most big cities have programs that you can apply for for low interest loans to help you make home repairs.

Do you live in a community that has a municipal office? I would start there and ask them to help you figure out what resources are local to you.

They may tell you to seek help from your state representative (if you are in the US). His/her office often has resources they can share with you.

Churches/synagogues/mosques may also have programs for which you may qualify.

Post back with your location and I may have a few more ideas.

Prayers for you and your husband.
