You may not want this reply, but chickweed is edible. Susun Weed raves about its taste, as do those she persuades to eat it. And no planting or tending is required. You're in the Show-Me state; show yourself, then the neighbors.

You need to apply a weed killer. Do not apply the same time you are seeding. They weed killer will also kill the grass.
