Identifying a Black Beetle Looking Bug?

I found this black beetle looking bug on my apartment bathroom floor. I encountered a pretty similar dead one on the kitchen floor. I am not sure what it is or where it came from. I don't see any more on the walls. I have mostly tan and brown carpet.
