looks like a standard beetle to me, almost like an al-brown ladybug type deal

apparently there are many types of 'lady beetle': www.discoverlife.org/.../20q?guide=Ladybug

Jar one up and take it to the hardware store or garden shop for a true ID.

Some beetles either go for wood, cardboard, or your flours/grain products so get sure to check and make sure they aren't getting invasive. Usually a few, I ignore, but a dozen sounds like a party.

Once you find their food preferences you can take next steps...like keeping grains in the fridge until you shoo them out. If your yard has a lot of tree debris, get rid of that as that is a favorite nesting place.

Good luck!
