Identifying a Houseplant? (Unknown)

two bulb plants with broad med green leavesCan anyone identify these houseplants? I took them from my in-law's house when it was being emptied as I don't like to see plants thrown out. I've had them about 15 months now and they have grown a few more leaves and look healthy, but I don't know what it it or what it does. Because of the bulb I wondered if it was an amaryllis, but I think their leaves grow straight and a lot quicker than this plant that seems very slow growing. The leaves are slightly hairy around the edges but otherwise smooth.

I have both amaryllis and desert rose. This looks like a desert rose. So be careful it's sap is poisonous to children and animals. I have pictures but can't get them to post on here. Look on my fb page.
